Welcome to my homepage. This page is in contant reconstruction and hopefully next time when you visit, it will have different features (provided that I have enough time to change it). Nonetheless, surf this site and get to know me better. Your comments and suggestions are more than welcome .... as long as they are appreciative! My name is Muhammad Adeel Parvaz. I am a first-year student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook University. I am an international student and am originally from Paksitan. I cam to the United States in August 2001. Here is a little bit of my background: After graduating from high school, I got accepted in electronics engineering department of one of the best engineering colleges of my country. Due to excellent high school performance and impressive entrance exam scores, I was awarded full tuition scholarship. During the second semester I realized that if I want to involve myself in cutting edge research in this electronics engineering, Pakistan was not the right choice due to lack of research facilities. Therefore, in order to acquire better higher education I decided to pursue my education in the United States. I got accepted in Stony Brook University, where I was awarded “the outstanding freshman award” by Tau Beta Pi. The summer after the freshman year I was inflicted with rheumatic fever and I was hospitalized for two days. At the hospital I met a Biomedical Engineering student who was volunteering at the hospital. After having a detailed conversation with him regarding Biomedical engineering, I found out that Biomedical Engineer uses traditional engineering expertise to analyze and solve problems in biology and medicine. This field intrigued me because it provided me with an opportunity to be of service to people, to partake of the excitement of working with living systems, and to apply advanced technology to the complex problems of medical care. After speaking to him I realized that this discipline was a true mix of what I had always desired. This is when I started to acquire more information about biomedical engineering and spoke with the biomedical engineering faculty at Stony Brook. By the time the college was resumed after summer intersession I was a biomedical engineering student. I enjoyed the classes which were offered by the department each catering for the information and techniques that a biomedical engineer should be well-equipped with. Now, after receiving my undergraduate
degree in Biomedical Engineering, I am persuing my doctoral degree in
Biomedical Engieering from Stony Brook University. So, this ship has sailed
for yet another destination. |
